Best Dive Sites at Nusa Penida: Manta Point, Crystal Bay & Blue Corner

Nusa Penida is the best diving in Bali, and it is only a 45-minute boat ride from Sanur. After more than 800 dives at Manta Point, here is how I would plan your day and which sites match your level.

Where can you see manta rays at Nusa Penida?

Manta Point, on the island’s southwest coast, is a cleaning station mantas visit year-round. It is shallow — 5 to 25 metres — so most of the dive is in bright water where reef mantas with 4-metre wingspans glide close. Sightings peak in the dry season (April–October) when visibility reaches 20 to 30 metres.

When do mola-mola appear at Crystal Bay?

Crystal Bay is deeper and clearer, dropping past 40 metres. From July to October, cool upwelling water brings the oceanic sunfish (mola-mola) toward the surface — one of the few places on earth you can reliably see them on scuba. The rest of the year it is a beautiful blue-water reef dive.

Which Nusa Penida site suits your certification?

Gamat Bay5–25mOpen WaterCoral and macro
Blue Corner10–40mAdvanced+Demanding drift

If you are newly certified, stick to Manta Point and Gamat Bay. Blue Corner is a fast, deep drift for very experienced divers only.

Is Nusa Penida safe to dive?

Yes — with the right guide. The currents are strong and changeable, which is exactly why we keep groups to a maximum of 6, time every dive to the tide, and brief drift technique before we descend. We only run a site when the conditions are right for it.
