Surfing Uluwatu: Bali's World-Class Reef Break

Uluwatu is Bali's most famous wave — a long, fast left-hander breaking over reef beneath the clifftop temple. It is an advanced playground, but on the right tide and swell its friendlier sections make a thrilling step up for improver-surfers ready to leave the beach break behind.

What is Uluwatu known for?

Uluwatu is Bali’s signature wave — a long, fast left breaking over reef below the clifftop temple. It is a bucket-list spot for experienced surfers and, on the right day, an exhilarating step up for improvers who have outgrown the beach break.

Is Uluwatu for you yet?

If you can already stand and ride at Canggu, a coached Uluwatu session is the natural next move. Total beginners should start at Batu Bolong first — Uluwatu is a reef break, and the reward comes with respect for the conditions.

When are conditions best?

The dry season (April–October) delivers offshore wind and consistent swell, and we time sessions to a mid tide for the cleanest, safest waves. Your coach picks the friendliest zone for your ability and will always be honest if the day suits somewhere else.
